We strongly caution anyone to have business dealings with these dishonest people.
PTFEA Attends Congress Hearing on House Bill 659 & 2266
The House of Representatives, Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources, under the chairmanship of Hon. Cong. Alfredo D. Marañon III invited the PTFEA to attend deliberation on House Bill 659 entitled "An Act Amending Sec. 97 of Republic Act. No. 8550 otherwise known as the Fisheries Code of The Philippines of 1998", and House Bill 2266 entitled, "An Act Amending Sec. 91 and 97 of Republic Act. No. 8550 otherwise known as the Fisheries Code of The Philippines of 1998". The meeting was held on Dec. 12, 2007 at the Ramon Mitra Building, Batasan Complex. Representatives from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau, and Project Seahorse also attended the meeting. Everyone present agreed to the ideas proposed in the amendments, and there was a very lengthy discussion of the implementation issues. Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources, Hon. Cong. Niel C. Tupas, Jr. suggested that there must be implementing rules and regulations, in order make sure that the House Bills, once passed, will be properly observed by the industry. The committee chairman, Hon. Cong. Alfredo D. Marañon III, agreed and suggested that a techinal working group shall be formed to do this. It is hoped that the bill will be passed this time, as a similar bill, House Bill 896, filed during the 13th Congress by Representative Salacnib Baterina (1st District, Ilocos Sur), was not completed before the 13th Congress was closed.

PTFEA-BFAR Industry Certification Preliminary Meeting
On November 28, 2007 PTFEA members met with officers of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), namely Ms. Farida M. Batolos, OIC BFAR-OSEDC, Insp. Amor Diaz, and Dr. Joselito Somga. The group discussed the possible certification of the industry, which to their pleasant surprise was also inline with the program of the BFAR. This move is to help improve the operational standards of the industry, and to weed out fly-by-night operations that is damaging the reputation of the industry, to the detriment of the established and legitimate industry members.

Black-Listed Companies.
PTFEA recently introduced a policy of publishing its "black-list" of companies who are swindling our members by not paying for the fishes and/or freight for the shipments sent. We are doing this so that the public may be informed and possibly avoid dealing with these unscrupulous companies.
Before publishing, we give these companies a chance to explain their side of the allegations and to correct the situation in case the allegations are correct.
